20 Cars Gen Z Always Rolls Their Eyes At

When The Car Feels Extremely Out Of Touch

Every generation develops its own opinions about cars, and Gen Z has grown up with a very different automotive landscape than previous generations. They're more likely to question oversized vehicles, dated technology, excessive fuel consumption, and the idea that every new car needs to look intimidating. Of course, not everyone in a generation shares the same taste, but certain vehicles have become easy targets for younger drivers and car enthusiasts.

1. Hummer H2

The Hummer H2 practically announces that fuel economy wasn't high on the priority list. Its enormous proportions and military-inspired styling can look especially excessive to younger drivers who grew up hearing constant discussions about efficiency and emissions. Even people who appreciate unusual vehicles may wonder what exactly required something this enormous.

2. Dodge Challenger

The Challenger has a devoted following, but its retro styling can feel a little too deliberate to younger drivers who prefer more modern designs. Its muscle-car image is also closely tied to loud engines and aggressive driving culture. For someone who'd rather have efficient transportation with plenty of technology, the Challenger can seem like a relic from another automotive era.

3. Ford Mustang

The Mustang will always turn heads, but old-school muscle doesn’t resonate with everyone. Young drivers who live in a world with electric cars may scoff at basic horsepower-grinding engines. Guys can’t be the only Mustang skeptics either.

4. Chevrolet Suburban

Why would you want a vehicle that huge?! Just having enough room for passengers and cargo is the Suburban’s whole selling point. If you don’t haul your family around or tow big boats, the Suburban will feel unwieldy. Parking one downtown is also enough of a challenge to give some drivers pause.

5. Jeep Wrangler

While Jeeps have their admirers, it’s fair to say not every younger driver indulges your inner off-roader. Driving around town when you could be in a comfortable sedan is the Wrangler’s biggest sin. Body roll, wind noise, and an outdated design combine to leave some folks wondering why.

6. Cadillac Escalade

Speaking of luxury vehicles exuding status… Step right up to see the Cadillac Escalade! Younger buyers who don’t care about impressing the neighbors may find Escalades unnecessarily pompous. Throw in their gargantuan size and thirst for fuel, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for avoidance.

7. Chevrolet Camaro

Camaros look awesome, don’t get us wrong. But something about old-school sports cars feels totally incompatible with younger drivers’ expectations. Remember how there wasn’t much room to spare? That will always leave certain people wondering where their backpack goes.

8. Nissan Juke

Love it or hate it, you’ve got feelings about the Juke. Nissan’s hopelessly divisive style won’t win over younger drivers who despise it either. Intentionally unique doesn’t always mean good, and it’s hard to argue with anyone who thinks the Juke is ugly.

9. Chrysler PT Cruiser

The PT Cruiser attempted to combine modern practicality with a retro hot-rod-inspired appearance. Unfortunately, its styling has aged in a way that can make it look particularly dated to people who weren't around when it was new. Younger drivers may have trouble understanding why anyone thought its design would remain timeless.

10. Hummer EV

Here’s a strangely timely example. Hummers aren’t new, but electric Hummers are. While tech-minded young drivers will appreciate what the Hummer EV has to offer, size is still a concern.

11. Toyota Prius

The Prius deserves credit for bringing hybrids to the masses. Early adopter purists suffered the brunt of teasing back when being environmentally friendly wasn’t cool just yet. These days, younger drivers find its retro quirks lacking.

12. Ford F-150

Don’t get us wrong, truck culture is totally rad. The problem is full-size pickups aren’t for everyone. If you live in the city and only use your car to drive to school and work, you might find trucks oversized and impractical.

13. Tesla Cybertruck

The polarizing Cybertruck wasn’t born polarizing other cars. But give people a shiny, robot-looking vehicle and some will inevitably ask why. Younger drivers obsessed with cool EVs may understand the appeal. They’re also smart enough to know good design isn’t simply an electric car that leans forward.

14. Dodge Ram 3500

A heavy-duty pickup can be extremely useful when someone genuinely needs its towing and hauling abilities. The problem is that not every owner actually needs that capability, especially for ordinary commuting. To a younger driver focused on practicality and efficiency, a massive diesel truck used primarily for short trips can seem like an odd choice.

15. Chevrolet Corvette C4

The fourth-generation Corvette has plenty of historical importance, but its 1980s styling hasn't aged gracefully for everyone. Its sharp edges, digital instrumentation, and wedge-shaped profile are unmistakably products of their time. Gen Z drivers who are used to contemporary interiors may find the cockpit particularly fascinating for reasons that aren't entirely flattering.

16. BMW 7 Series From The Early 2000s

Used luxury cars can be a great value. Swapping out your aging beater for a classic exotic you easily found cheap is every young driver's dream. Too bad older high-end cars come with older high-end price tags for maintenance.

17. Ford Crown Victoria

The Crown Victoria is practically a historical artifact of American road culture, having spent years serving as a common taxi, police car, and fleet vehicle. Its body-on-frame construction and enormous interior were useful for that role, but they aren't particularly relevant to most modern drivers. Seeing one today can produce more nostalgia than genuine automotive envy.

18. Nissan Armada

The Armada provides lots of room, substantial towing ability, and a commanding driving position. For younger drivers who value smaller vehicles and lower running costs, however, those advantages can feel unnecessary. If your biggest weekly challenge is finding a parking spot, owning a full-size SUV isn't necessarily going to make life easier.

19. Lincoln Town Car

The Town Car exudes old-money elegance and class. Younger drivers don’t care about gentle rides and vintage coolness when they can have technology. Spend some time driving one and you’ll understand why Town Cars feel old-school compared to modern compact cars.

20. Chevrolet Tahoe

The Tahoe remains a practical choice for large families, towing, and people who genuinely need three rows of space. For everyone else, its size and fuel consumption can make it difficult to justify. Younger drivers who grew up with compact crossovers, hybrids, and EVs may simply wonder why their daily commute requires something that large.
