The 10 Worst Ferrari Models Ever Made & The 10 Best

When Perfection Slips & Legends Are Born

Ferrari has built some of the most desirable cars on the planet, but even icons have off days. Not every model wearing the prancing horse lived up to the hype, price tag, or expectations that come with the badge. Let’s take a look at where Ferrari stumbled and where it absolutely nailed it. Here are the 10 worst and the 10 best Ferraris ever produced.

1. Ferrari Mondial 8

The Mondial 8 looked promising on paper, but the performance didn’t match the Ferrari name. Its underpowered engine made it feel sluggish compared to rivals. Criticized as slow, heavy, unreliable, and plagued with electrical issues and poor build quality, it was truly a poor excuse for a Ferrari.

2. Ferrari 400 Automatic

An automatic transmission in a classic Ferrari already raised eyebrows. The car leaned more toward a luxury cruiser than a sharp sports car. Many fans felt it lacked the soul they expected from a Ferrari.

3. Ferrari Dino 208 GT4

Built for tax reasons, the smaller engine meant it was underpowered. Because it was less powerful, it was marketed as a Dino, leading true Ferrari fans to accuse it of being "not a real Ferrari." The dramatic wedge-shaped design was also very polarizing and criticized for copying Lamborghini.

4. Ferrari Mondial 3.2

Even with improvements over earlier versions, the Mondial 3.2 never fully escaped its reputation. Performance still lagged behind expectations. It often felt like a compromise instead of a statement.

5. Ferrari 348 TB

Based on specs alone, the 348 should’ve been a hit, but reality was less kind. Handling quirks made it challenging to drive smoothly. Many owners felt it needed more refinement.

6. Ferrari Testarossa (Early Models)

While visually iconic, early Testarossas had noticeable quality issues. Interior fit and finish didn’t match the dramatic exterior. Owners were easily frustrated by the poor quality fuel and coolant hoses, weak transaxle, and claustrophobic-feeling cockpit.

7. Ferrari California (First Generation)

Ferrari traditionalists weren’t thrilled with the California’s softer personality. It leaned heavily toward comfort rather than excitement. Although it ended up being very popular and opened up the company to a broader customer base, it just felt like a watered-down version of a Ferrari.

8. Ferrari F12berlinetta

While the F12berlinetta was stunning, it was known for being unruly, demanding significant skill from the driver just to be able to handle it. It was overly heavy, tremendously powerful, and felt like it was detached from the road while driving.

9. Ferrari Portofino

The Portofino aimed to be approachable, sometimes at the expense of drama. It didn’t feel as raw or special as other models, and it lacked that characteristic V8 soundtrack. If you wanted edge, this one played it too safe.

10. Ferrari FF

The FF’s shooting brake design divided opinions instantly. While practical, it confused fans expecting a traditional Ferrari shape. It felt like a bold experiment that didn’t fully land.
